Drywood Termites
Drywood termites are the most common termites in southern California. There are many methods on treating these distructive insects. Every year at the end of summer, they will swarm for a period of a couple months off and on. During the rest of the year, the conlony is feeding on wood. Here, you see a family of drywood termites. Starting from left to right is a larvae. This is the beginning of a termite's life. At this stage it can becomes any of the member as shown, depending on it's sex. The next two termites you see are workers, they are the most abundant and distructive members in the colony. They do not sleep or take breaks from eating wood. The next two termites are soilders. Their purpose is to protect the colony against invaders, such as ants and other things that might try to disrupt the colony. |
Drywood termite swarmers typically swarm at the end of the summer for a couple of months off and on. Their sole purpose is to mate and start a new colony. Once this is done, one colony becomes two and so on as time goes by. One colony can multiply in a short period of time. This leads to faster distruction to the infested wood members. |

In this picture, you see termite fecal pellets. Fecal pellets are digested wood from a termite. Pellets are the most common signs of a drywood termite infestation. Common places where these pellets are found are windows, doors, attics, garages, substructures and any exposed wood. If you see pellets like these, then its time to call a professional. |
You can clearly see the distruction that drywood termite can cause. More often than not, this is the result of a drywood termite infestation. Early detection is the key to controlling drywood termites. A professional inspection is recommended once a year.
